Path Of industrial Change
Golpa Nord

1993
The international student competition »Free Spaces for Tomorrow« : Zschornewitz in the Industrial Garden Realm is selected by an international jury (alongside Lyon, Thessaloniki, Ostrava and Oberhausen) as a project area. The concepts for Zschornewitz receive first and third prizes as well as a special award.

1994
Work continues on the winning projects by the Bauhaus students who received the awards: the idea for a "Path of Industrial Change" takes shape

1995
/ 96 Exhibition and art events are held on the subject of the Path

1997
First construction measures are taken to implement the idea

The Path links two striking locations near Zschornewitz. The northern point of departure is Golpa-Nord pit near Gräfenhainichen with Ferropolis. To the south, the path links Zschornewitz and the power station (as an industrial monument) with the top of Golpa II tip.

The »summit« in the middle of the project area of the Industrial Garden Realm is a barren and desolate formation. From here, one can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the region. »Golpa Heights Wind Park«, which includes ten wind turbines, is being installed on the plateau.
Passing from one location to the next, one witnesses the various stages of industrial development and the resulting changes to the countryside. In the course of time, an area is to be created between Golpa-Nord and Golpa II tip whose special attraction will be the striking manner in which it shows the industrial depletion of the bases of our existence -a characteristic feature of this past century. At the same time, however, it will show ways in which modern technology can be combined with ecologically-friendly energy production.
Traces of industrial history and new design elements fit into the countryside like a string of pearls along approximately eight kilometers, thus creating a contemporary counterpart to the »Garden Realms main avenue«, between Dessau and Wörlitz, only a few kilometers away.
